PRINCESS MARY TO HOST LISA METRO BANQUET

SEASON ENDING EVENT SCHEDULED MAY 6TH

Princessmary

Dinner, dancing, guest speakers and coaches awards are on the agenda as Lower Island celebrates the 04/05 season with a gala event on Friday, May 6th, 6pm at Victoria's Princess Mary Restaurant, 358 Harbour Road.

The event is for players, coaches and managers in the Metro/Selects and Lower Island Academy programs. The cost for the event is covered by fees paid for the program.

"We only sell tickets to parents ($20 each) whose player is receiving an award" wrote LISA Executive Administrator, Sharon Mareijka. "With potentially 200 people in the Metro/Select Program and 120 in the Academy it would become too big if all the parents wanted to go. Also, the players don't want their parents there!".
Parents are to contact the LISA administration office with any questions or orders for tickets. Coach Jon will be in communication with our teams' award winner and her family.

All coaches are asked to prepare a 2 minute speech (red carded if a second too long). As a team, we are asked to bring along a door prize in the $20-$30 value. This is already looked after.

Please RSVP by sending an email to my attention, no later than May 1st. email me

FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY FOR FAMILIES

Curbside_iconDELIVER CRD RECYCLING CALENDARS  IN APRIL
Lower Island's Metro Coordinator, Terry Hughes has provided a unique opportunity for individuals or families to earn money delivering the CRD Recycling Calendars door to door in Victoria. You could earn up to $1,800.

Calendars must be delivered between April 16th and May 1st. Each individual or family is given a territory. Terry figures that the amount of work would be divided into 2 hours per day x 3 individuals over 3 weekends.

For families involved in Metro and Super Y, it is a great way to help offset the costs of these programs.

If you are interested or require additional information, then please reply directly to Terry by clicking here.

U14gvsrichmondTEAM MANAGER PRESENTS CHEQUE - Lower Island's u14 Metro Girls team manager, Joanne, presented a cheque in the amount of $75 to be added to the contributions presented to the Canadian Red Cross two weeks ago. The accumulated total to date is $1,878.30. An admirable sum indeed.

"We regret not being able to support the event on the 15th due to another commitment. The effort put in by the u15 girls has not gone unnoticed and we wanted to contribute to the project", commented Joanne. "We are proud of the u15 Metro Girls. What a great idea and what a well executed event".

Thank you Joanne and your u14 Metro Girls for your support.

u15 METRO GIRLS + RED CROSS = COMMUNITY SPIRIT

Logo_redcross_2$1803.30 RAISED FOR TSUNAMI RELIEF
Victoria's local youth soccer community braved sub zero temperatures, sleet and snowfall Saturday afternoon to raise funds to benefit those impacted by the devastating Tsunamis in South East Asia. This event was made a success by all who participated; on the field, on the sidelines and behind the scenes. In total, the funds raised for the Red Cross through team contributions and the raffles exceeded the target considerably. A donation was well received Monday afternoon at the Red Cross office on Fairfield Road in the name of Lower Island Youth Soccer for the total of $1,803.30.

Vsbaysu12gsilverTeams representing Bays United Youth, Gordon Head, Gorge and Juan de Fuca Soccer Associations competed in a 5 v 5 mini format at UVic's outdoor turf field facility. Youth as young as 7 years old dressed in soccer gear along with toques and gloves in a loosely played festival style format. The smiles were literally frozen on the young faces.

For many of the competing teams, today's sessions represented the first touches of the soccer ball since the winter break began over six weeks ago. With all municipal fields closed, the fund raising event proved popular to coaches and players preparing for provincial cup competition.

  • CROWD PLEASER
Halloween fell on a Sunday this year. For the visiting Surrey Breakers, this wa s a day in which each player came to play. They outhustled the Lower Island Predators for the first 75 minutes and held on to steal the victory. Super mom, Janice Lee photographed the girls on this day. She is an exceptional photographer ensuring that she gets a quality action shot of each player. In the cover shot, we see the game ball eluding the elevated arms of the Breaker's keeper. The inset shows a smiling Kristyn whose direct kick was inspired by the passing of her grandmother 2 days earlier.

  • Visioning Next Run
Images in this albulm were photographed by Mike Krayenhoff using her new Canon Digital SLR Camera and Sigma lens. She likes to call it her new adventure. The game was played at Hjorth Road Park in North Surrey near the Guilford Mall on a sunny Rememberance Day. Guilford u15 Marlins were the opponent dressed in silver with blue numbers and trim. The Predators wore white tops with red shorts & socks. The first half was a total Guilford attack who built up a 3-0 half time lead. After Jon's pointed message at the break, the girls came to life scoring 1 goal and setting up numerous scoring opportunities. Final result; Guilford Marlins 3 - Lower Island Predators 1

  • Solid Take Away
The journey to Chilliwack had the Predators driving through the season's first snowfall in Abbottsford along the Trans Canada Hwy. We were soon in the cool climes of Chilliwack. A positive result would mean personal sacrifices made inside the offensive and defensive 18 yard boxes. Meghan H is shown here splitting the Chilliwack Impact defenders inside the attacking 18 yard box. She was literraly mauled on this play in the first half without a whistle for her effort. Revenge was best served in the second half wherby Meghan made an equally brave attack inside the attacking 18. This time, the referee called the infraction. Kristyn calmly placed the ball low to the keeper's left on the ensuing PK that capped the come from behind 2-2 draw. The photographs are courtesy Mike Krayenhoff. She shot over 300 action packed images on this day. Thank you Mike.

Red Cross Fundraiser

  • Little Man Takes Flight
We will all remember the second Saturday of the year. Together, we raised over $1800 to benefit those impacted by the devastating Tsunamis that rocked South East Asia, India, Sri Lanka and Eastern Africa. All photos in this gallery were submitted by Harold McNeill of Lower Island Soccer. We are truely grateful to have a pictoral memory of the event. Together, we can make things happen.

  • Helena Comes off Bench
A rare Saturday make-up game was played at Topaz Park versus the visiting Abbotsford Mariners. This would be the first game back from the winter break and canceled games due to weather induced field closures. The home team dominated posession, however the visitors stole the points and the 3-1 victory over the home team. Predators were alive in the first half scoring the equalizing goal by Veronica in the 24th minute, inspired by the passing of her grandmother earlier that week. For the Predators, it was their first taste of defeat since the last week of November.

Amelia moves to the front moments before the post game hand shake with the Port Coquitlam Magic. The girls played a solid game defensively for the second consecutive Sunday while earning a 1-1 draw. The smiles reward the game of soccer. Our provincial coach and national u19 women's coaches were in attendance. It was comforting to see this team play through adversity with only one sub available. An exhaustive effort was displayed by all with each individual dedicated to the team performance. The future looks bright. Thank you to Mike for the cool images and to Nigel for his preparation of our back up keeper.

  • Mikey & Kelly
North Island Nitro hosted the Lower Island Predators in the grudge match for Island bragging rights. Nanaimo's Caledonia Park was the venue on a cool and cloudless February afternoon. Of note was the conversation between myself, Meghan H and Carly regarding how often Meghan has been photgraphed well throughout the season. She seems to always be captured in our photographers lenses in great action shots. Carly was quick to compliment Meghan by telling her just how photogenic she is on the field! Today's photographer was Mike, and she caught Meghan in a great move late in the game from behind the western goal for another Meghan classic just seconds before scoring the final goal. You are truely photogenic M. Great shot too Mike.
